THE 4 WAYS OF DEALING WITH DISAPPOINTMENT
1 – God’s Will for our lives will include disappointments (the world, the flesh, the devil)
2 – When disappointments come, it is important to remember that God is at work.
Romans 8:28..." And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to {His} purpose." (NASB)
1st Corinthians 10:13..."No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." (NASB)
3 – When disappointments come, it is important to seek God and pray.
2nd Samuel 2:1..."Then it came about afterwards that David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up." So David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron." (NASB)
2nd Samuel 5:19..."Then David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand." (NASB)
2nd Samuel 5:23..."When David inquired of the LORD, He said, "You shall not go {directly} up; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees." (NASB)
2nd Sanuel 7:1 – 3..."Now it came about when the king lived in his house, and the LORD had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, that the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within tent curtains." Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your mind, for the LORD is with you." (NASB)
4 – When disappointments come, it is important to remain obedient to God
2nd Samuel 1:11 – 16..."Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and {so} also {did} all the men who {were} with him. They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword. David said to the young man who told him, "Where are you from?" And he answered, "I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite." Then David said to him, "How is it you were not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?" And David called one of the young men and said, "Go, cut him down." So he struck him and he died. David said to him, "Your blood is on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed the LORD'S anointed.'" (NASB)
2nd Samuel 3:1..."Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David; and David grew steadily stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker continually." (NASB)
2nd Samuel 3:31..."Then David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, "Tear your clothes and gird on sackcloth and lament before Abner." And King David walked behind the bier." (NASB)
2nd Samuel 4:7..."Now when they came into the house, as he was lying on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him and killed him and beheaded him. And they took his head and traveled by way of the Arabah all night." (NASB)
