The Festivals – A Broad Overview
Sabbath (Leviticus 23:3) – a day of rest for the Israelites every 7th day, corresponding to our present Saturday not Sunday.
Passover (Leviticus 23:5) – celebrated annually on the 14th day of the 1st month, roughly corresponding to our March/April
Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6 – 8) – celebrated annually between the 15th and 21st of the 1st month but tied into the celebration of The Passover so as to become virtually one and the same festival in later thought.
First Fruits (Leviticus 23:9 – 14) – celebrated annually on the day after The Sabbath (of The Passover Festival).
First Fruits (Leviticus 23:15 – 21) – celebrated annually on the 15th day after The Sabbath (of The Passover Festival).
The Intermediate Festival (Deuteronomy 26:1 – 11) – it took place between the festivals of Pentecost and Tabernacles on each day that the Israelites brought their first fruits of the final harvest to The Temples.
Trumpets (Leviticus 23:23 – 25) – celebrated on the 1st day of the 7th month (roughly corresponding to our September).
The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26 – 32, 16:1 – 34) – celebrated on the 10th day of the 7th month.
Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33 – 36, 39 – 43) – celebrated between the 15th and 22nd day of the 7th month, it came to be regarded as the most important of all the Jewish festivals, seeing as it concludes their cycle.
